A bid to kidnap a minor girl of age below two year of age by a non-local was foiled by a team of Heingang police station of Imphal east district yesterday.
The non-local has also been arrested, official report said today.
The incident occurred yesterday around 2.30 at Gaipunam village near Khuman Lampak.
The non-local who attempted to abduct and carry away the girl child was identified as Ragupati Singh (60) son of Mahedev hailing from Bihar's Sitamhari district.
He allegedly attempted to kidnap a girl child named Langanglu Kamei daughter of Mangoljao Kamei of Gaipunam village.
She is a little child of less than two year.
The girl was found staying together with the non-local at a hotel when family and locals search when she was found missing.
Later, Heingang who swung into action on getting the missing report found the non-local with the girl at a hotel in the evening at about 6 pm yesterday.
According to the family the child might have been kidnapped by the non-local while she was playing at the gate of the house alone.
At that time parents were inside the house.
Her father is a paralysis patient staying always inside the house.
Locals showed parents of the non-local nearby the area before the child was missing.
Family lodged complaint with the police when she was found till late evening.
Heingang police handed over the non-local to Imphal police station who produced him before the chief judicial magistrate and taken remand into the custody till September 11 after registering an FIR case 297(9)/09 under section 365/363 (A) of IPC of Imphal PS.
