Free bio-inputs to be distributed to farmers till Dec 31

World Soil Day was jointly observed by Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) and Green Foundation, Imphal, at various parts of the State yesterday under the aegis of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North-Eastern Region (MOVCDNER).
Various discussion programmes, seminars and workshops are organised all over the world by Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) which is under the United Nations, under the theme 'Be the solution to soil pollution' this year.
Speaking to media persons, Green Foundation Imphal CEO U Himmat said that awareness programme, as well as free distribution of materials required for making bio-fertilisers, bio-pesticides and compost were carried out at 15 different location of the State.
The day has been observed with the aim of enhancing soil fertility and bringing solution to soil pollution using various bio inputs, he said adding that in relation with World Soil Day, the Department will provide free bio-inputs to the farmers till December 31.He continued that the bio-fertilisers of Green Foundation Imphal is a carrier based fertilisers which is produced from indigenous strand.
Materials are also available for making bio-pesticide and compost, he said adding that the foundation is also an official partners of FAO in the global soil partnership.
The foundation aims to make 50 percent of the total farmland in Manipur, organic certified by 2030, he said.
The CEO also explained that the soil in Manipur is often described by experts as being in the embryonic period and during such period, sensitization, introduction bio-inputs, popularising organic certification and research are critical.
