Imphal, May 06 2024:
Following the devastating hailstorm that struck the state on Sunday, causing extensive damage to properties, including houses; authorities of Imphal West and Noney districts have taken swift action to mitigate the problems faced by the affected people.
Recognising the sudden increase in demand for roofing materials, especially CGI sheets, Imphal West and Noney deputy commissioners have issued a series of regulations aimed at regulating prices and facilitating fair distribution of roofing sheets.
Under the new regulations, which will be effective from May 6 to 13, all wholesalers, retailers, and shops are mandated to remain open on all days, including holidays and Sundays, to ensure uninterrupted access to roofing materials by affected families.
Detailed information regarding stock position, brand, thickness, and prices of roofing materials must be prominently displayed outside each establishment for public awareness.
Additionally, copies of this information must be provided to the office of the DCs concerned through the district supply officer of CAF&PD.
The prices of roofing materials as of April 30, or lower rates where applicable, will be considered as the market rate during this period.
Bulk purchases by private parties are strictly prohibited at all centres, shops, or establishments to prevent hoarding and ensure equitable distribution, asserted the DCs, adding that sales of roofing materials are restricted solely to families affected by the hailstorm, with detailed records of transactions maintained by each establishment.
The District Supply Officer of-CAF&PD, Imphal West and Noney districts, along with representatives from the SPs concerned,' will monitor the operations of all shops and establishments to ensure compliance with the regulations.
To address any grievances related to the implementation of these regulations, residents of Imphal West district can contact or send SMS to the designated mobile number 8132854956, the DC Imphal West order said.
The order emphasised that these measures are necessary to ensure proper rationalisation of available roofing materials and their equitable distribution among genuinely affected families.
