A two-day consultation programme on 'why a specialised institute of social work for peace-building and human security' has kick started at Hotel Nirmala today.
The programme is being organised by Institute of Social Work for Peace Building and Human Security.
Secretary of the institute, U Nobokishore and School of Human and Environmental Science of Manipur University Dean Prof W Nabakumar were the president and chief guest of the opening function.
Prof W Nabakumar while speaking in the function said that Manipur University does not have PG course or Master degree programme on Social Science.
Prof W Nabakumar added that as Manipur is experiencing a conflict situation, State youth and students must keep themselves well informed about social work.
The Professor also expressed hope that the consultation programme may submit a proposal to the Chancellor of Manipur University regarding introduction of PG courses on social work.
Giving his presidential address, U Nobokishore said that security forces have been constantly violating human rights in the State under the cover of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
Saying that youth between the age of 18 to 35 years are on the receiving end of such human rights violations, Nobokishore opined that a firm stand is needed to face the atrocities.
Maintaining that current harassments and killings being faced by the innocent people are the direct impact of corruption, Nobokishore opined to hit hard to the corrupters to control the crimes.
