Imphal, September 01 2024: The Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO) observed International Overdose Awareness Day at Manipur Press Club yesterday on the theme "Together We Can" .

It was graced by Dr Kh Lokeshor, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS; Y Shasikumar, general secretary, SASO; Dr K Shantibala, Head, Department of Psychiatry, JNIMS; Dr Beema Haodijam, Deputy Director, MACS; Prof MC Arunkumar, Department of Anthropology, Manipur University and Khogendra Khomdram, president, Editors Guild Manipur as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Laishram Shantibala, joint secretary, SASO, expressed concern over the increasing number of deaths due to drug overdose in the State since 2020.Shantibala asserted that SASO in collaboration with Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) have taken up a number of activities to prevent drug overdoses and create a supportive environment for those struggling with drug addiction.

As part of the event, the gathering also observed a minute silence to pay respect to the victims of drug overdose.
