Imphal, July 28 2009:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident at BT Road as well as resignation of Power Minister Phungza thang Tensing.
Addressing a press conference in this connection, at MPP party office here this afternoon, party president Dr Nimaichand Luwang asserted that a judicial inquiry should be instituted to find out the truth and the circumstances leading to the broad daylight shoot out at the crowded BT Road.
In order to institute a judicial inquiry, pressures would be exerted on the Union Governent, Governor and the State Government, and in case of failure, the matter would be taken to the law Court, Dr Luwang said.
Taking strong exception to the mention of his name in the hate letter given to party MLA O Joy, before the start of the Assembly session yesterday, Dr Luwang said such malicious intention is strongly condemned by the MPP.
Alleging that TD, PHED and Power Departments are dens of corruption, the MPP president said the Government should not try to shield any corrupt Minister and Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing should resign.
Expressing serious concern over the unsettling situation in the State, Dr Luwang observed that the common man now dread the Army, Paramilitary forces and State police more than the militants.
It is of grave concern that one Havildar and a Rifle man, arrested by Thoubal police turned out to be members of KCP during interrogation, Dr Luwang said, adding that the Govt should be held accountable for the IRB personnel who are on the payroll of the Govt, but working for the KCP.
Even though a UG group has claimed responsibility for the killing of Prof Islamuddin.
it has been reported that one IRB personnel had opened fire.
This shows that the Government had a hand in the killing, Dr Luwang alleged.
While appealing to stop hurling or exploding bombs at hospitals and clinics, Dr Luwang also said targeting migrant workers may send out a wrong message which may be detrimental to the welfare of Manipuri society.
The Govt should take up steps to stop this, he added.
