Tamenglong Chakka bandh called off

Following an assurance given by the Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur during a joint meeting, Joint Forum for Transport Welfare, Tamenglong on Tuesday called off its indefinite chakka bandh on NH- 37 from the midnight of May 13 .
Held in the office chamber of Chief Secretary P C Lawmkunga, IAS, the meeting was also attended by Principle Secretary Ram Ruivah IAS and the agitating party headed by Athanbou Pamei, President of Village Authority Chairmen Council Tamenglong District; Joseph DM, Secretary of Joint Forum for Transport Welfare Tamenglong, Zeiringkhuan, Chairman Land ownership Action committee, Tamenglong Road and former leaders of Zeliangrong Union.
After meeting, Joseph DM, told this reporter that the Chief Secretary P C Lawmkunga admitted the demand of the people is genuine and directed the Principal Secretary to move the file without any delay so as to ensure that the BRTF executes the construction of Tamenglong- Khongsang road at the earliest possible.
After lengthy debate and going through all the government's documents submitted by the bandh party, Lawmkunga also advised the Principal Secretary not to entrust the work on any other agencies as the people of Tamenglong have strong trust on BRTF.
Lawmkunga also assured the bandh party that he would write a letter to the MoRT & H to sanction the required fund to BRTF immediately so as to start the construction work.
The Chief Secretary then requested the agitators to call off their stir for two weeks and if there is no no progress seen, then they could can resume their agitation, Joseph DM said, adding that accordingly, the Forum decided to call of its indefinite Chakka bandh with effect from midnight of May 13 .
