Imphal, November 05 2008:
WHILE STATING that eight out of 194 families, victims of the "so-called Ethnic-riot of May-1993' are still bar from getting from all sort of assistances, the All Manipur 3rd-May Victim Campers' Association has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister alleging that state government is playing "divide and rule policy" amongst the victim families, a statement of the state association said today.
Inspite of repeated request to the concerned government authorities of the state including the chief minister for observed rule of law and justice in awarding compensation to the 194 families affected in the "ethnic-riot" occurred 15 years back in May, 1993, the same did not converted into action, the memorandum to the Prime Minister stated.
It said, out of the total victim families, 17 have got the assistances under the income generation scheme by providing a cycle-rickshaw each and housing scheme with five bundles of GCI sheets each while another 164 families had got the assistance under the housing scheme.
But, the remaining eight families are still set with empty hands without giving any benefits of the above said schemes, it said.
In response to a petition filed by the association, the Manipur Human Rights Commission, MHRC also issued various notices to the concerned authorities.
But still the state government had not given any convincing instructions to the concerned authorities, the memorandum complaint to the Prime Minister.
Even though the association submitted a representation to the state chief minister on February for providing the compensation in a similar way as that given compensations to the left out tribal victims of ethnic clash of 1991, the state government is in deaf ear, it stated while urging the Prime Minister to look into the matter and instruct the state government for necessary action at the earliest with to their demand.
