Right to Information Week 16 kicks off

The Right to Information Week celebration, 2016, commenced at Gandhi Memorial Hall today.
The inaugural function of the RTI Week celebration that is being held under the aegis of the Manipur Information Commission, was attended by Revenue, Forest and Environment Minister I Hemochandra Singh, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore Singh and Manipur Information Commission Chief Th Ibobi as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion Minister I Hemochandra said the RTI Act was passed by the Indian Parliament in 2005 and implemented the same year in the State.
The setting up of an Information Commission in the State has ensured transparency, the Minister opined.
RTI Act is very helpful in keeping a close link between the people and Government Departments even as the Government departments were committing anomalies of different kind.
The Act has already benefited a lot of people, Hemochandra stated while welcoming the people to contact State Information Commission regarding any queries or information.
Chief Secretary Oinam Nabakishore sought the people's co-operation in making the RTI Week celebration a success.
He also urged the State Information Commission to provide all the informations sought by the public.
This will bring transparency in the State, the Chief Secretary opined.
The inaugural programme was followed by a workshop on the RTI Act.
