Low jab rate in Kpi, Senapati worries Governor

Kangpokpi/Senapati, October 29 2021: Manipur Governor La Ganesan on Friday interacted with district level officers and representatives of civil society organisations of Kangpokpi district at the deputy commissioner's office complex, Kangpokpi.

The Governor arrived at the district headquarters in the afternoon on his maiden visit to Senapati and Kangpokpi districts.

Upon his arrival, the Governor was felicitated deputy commissioner Somorjit Salam along with several leaders and representatives of CSOs of the district.

A power point presentation on various development initiatives in the district was also presented by the deputy commissioner during the meeting.

Later, the Governor interacted with the DLOs and representatives of CSOs and discussed various issues of the district.

Addressing the gathering, La Ganesan appreciated the deputy commissioner and other DLOs for the developmental initiatives taken up in the district.

He stressed the need to increase the rate of Covid vaccination in the district so as to contain the virus in the district.

The Governor also asked the DLOs and other staff to focus on cleanliness of the district.

The highlight of Friday's event was the presence of 91-year-old war veteran Subedar L Singsit, who shared the dais with the Governor.

In Senapati, the Governor Ganeshan interacted with the DLOs and CSOs at the DRDA Conference Hall.

Speaking on the occasion, he affirmed that the country will never die as long as culture is preserved.

He also applauded the district administration for enabling ODF declaration in Senapati firstly in the state, construction of transit centres for doctors and also the police for maintaining law and order peacefully.

He also expressed happiness on see cultural shows presented by major tribes of the district.

The Governor, however, was not happy at the low percentage of Covid vaccination in the district which has recorded just 18 per cent so far and is one of the lowest among the districts in the state.

The Governor sought co-operation of every individual and civil society in increasing the vaccination rate at the earliest, while appealing to the gathering to maintain cleanliness in the district and co-operate with one another.

He also appealed to all to be vigilant and cooperate with the police department and army personnel and share information about smuggling activities to stop such illegal practices in the land.

During the day's event, Mahesh Chaudhari, deputy commissioner Senapati, highlighted the ongoing development projects being undertaken under various schemes in the district through PPT.

On the other hand, Ingawale Praving Dadaso, sub-divisional police officer Senapati, briefed the Governor about steps being taken by the police to maintain law and order in Senapati district.

An interactive programme was also organised by the district administration.

DLOs and CSOs took active participation in this session.

Senapati DC Mahesh Chaudhari, in his address, informed that the district has a population of 4,79,148 with an area of 3,271 sq Km (2011 census prior to bifurcation of Kangpokpi district) having 7 sub-divisions, 136 villages with ethnic communities like Mao, Mararn, Poumai, Than-gal, Zeliang, Kuki and Nepali.

The DC also highlighted the recent infrastructural development of road projects in the district namely Maram-Pe-ren road (NH-129A) which is under construction; Ukhrul-Tolloi-Tadubi road (NH-102A) - construction to be started soon; Karong-Kedima road (NH-2) - joint survey done under work agency by the NHIDCL; and Mahadev-Tolloi-Pfutsero road - joint survey to be conducted soon (agency - BRO).

On PHED, DC Mahesh Chaudhari informed that under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) drinking water will be provided to 11,492 households while 31,133 households will get water supply under the funding of New Development Bank (NDB) and 6953 households under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDs).

He stated that augmentation of Senapati headquarters water supply scheme under NESIDs would cover a population of 59,763 heads by 2038 AD (design year) with capacity of the project 3.29 MLD (work agency SPML INFRA limited).

The DC further informed about Eklavya model residential schools at Paomata, Purul and Tadubi and residential schools at Taphou Naga, Bendramai and a primary school at Chowainamei village.

He also informed about 4 tribal museums, women's market, sadbhavna mandav, working women hostel and transit hostel for doctors and teachers.

The DC also highlighted about the good works done under MGNREGS in the district especially of Liyai Khul-len village on stone surfacing road, on ODF status, covid-19 management, vaccination, potential areas for tourism and others.

Additional SP Senapati (Ops)Prawin Ingawale highlighted the achievements of the police department during the last one year which included seizure of 3.629 kgs (brown sugar/heroin powder), 37,975 WY tablets, 15 kg (crystal meth Ice drug) and opium 5kg.He further informed that 9 UGs were arrested, one 303 rifle with 4 live rounds seized, and 659 acres of poppy cultivation destroyed in the district.

The additional SP informed that the district police actively participated in Covid-19 awareness programme and implementation of Covid-19 screening point at Mao Gate, providing assistance to health department, etc.

He added that 67753 IPLs were issued with 48 renewals and 606 exits.

During an interaction, NPO president Solomon Arow shared the concern of racial discrimination and attack on Christians in other states, for which he appealed to the Governor to contact with his counterparts.

Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) president N Hannah highlighted the problem of shortage of manpower in the district hospital and stressed the need for earning provision for the womenfolk in the district.

District officers from PHED, divisional forest department, district social welfare, lead bank, chief medical officer, District Health Society, NHIDCL, Red Cross Society, FCI and others highlighted their departmental achievements.

Cultural items from 5 major tribes of the district including Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal and ZeUangrong, Senapati Zone were showcased during the programme.

The event was also attended by Bobby Waikhom, secretary to governor and HT Gangte, special secretary.
