Imphal, September 29 2022:
Manipur University has served a show cause notice to assistant professor Dr N Sanatomba of Manipuri department over his remark during a debating competition on liquor legalisation organised by Manipur University Students' Union on September 25 .
The notice issued by MU registrar W Chandbabu said that Dr Sanatomba delivered a speech in the debating competition criticising the state government with regard to tourism, legalisation of liquor and various other sensitive issues.
"His speech went viral on social media.
Such speech made by him in the public platform has tarnished the image of the University, which prima facie appears to be highly derogatory and defamatory," the notice said.
The deans' committee in its meeting held on September 27 considered the matter in detail and resolved to issue a show cause notice to the assistant professor before taking any necessary action as per law, if so required, the notice said.
It then instructed Dr N Sanatomba to explain in writing regarding his speech, which has violated the rules under Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964 within seven days from the date of receipt of the show cause notice, and explain why disciplinary action as deem fit should not be taken against him.
