Ayurveda Day observed in Imphal with focus on healthy living

Imphal, September 23 2026:
Ayurveda Day was celebrated widely in Imphal today with emphasis on Ayurveda as a holistic and scientific system of medicine and its vital role in preventive healthcare and wellness.
The Directorate of AYUSH and State AYUSH Society, Manipur observed the 10th Ayurveda Day at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong.
Addressing the function, Commissioner cum Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Sumant Singh said adoption of Ayurveda will increase if people follow disciplined food habits.
People often prefer allopathic medicines because they are not aware of the benefits of Ayurveda, he said.
He said eating the right quantity at the right time benefits both body and mind, but without discipline it yields no benefit.
Ayurveda is not just about herbal medicines, meditation is also a part of it which teaches mindful eating, he added.
Stating that Ayurveda will play a major role in keeping future generations healthy, he informed that footfall at AYUSH centres in the State has crossed one lakh.
Director, Health Services, Dr Hemanta Kumar and Director, AYUSH, Dr Akoijam Lokendro attended the programme among others.
In another function, the Ayurvedic Doctors Association of Manipur (ADAM) observed the 11th Ayurveda Day, 2026 at Aeropeal Foods, Konjeng Leikai, under the theme 'Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow'.
ADAM president Dr N Paona said Ayurveda, India's gift to the world, teaches healthy living from dawn to dusk and helps in living a disease-free long life.
He cautioned people against buying Ayurvedic medicines from shops or online after seeing advertisements on social media, and advised them to take only standardized medicines after consulting Ayurvedic doctors.
Additional Director, Health Services Dr Somorjit Ningombam said the AYUSH system has progressed significantly with research, documentation and Central funding.
SNO, AYUSH Dr K Benedict Maring and Senior Specialist, AYUSH Dr Yumnam Dhaneshwori Devi also spoke, calling upon Ayurvedic doctors to build public trust and to become smart clinicians equipped with knowledge of ECG, Ultrasound and X-ray.
