Wangkhei Meiraba, his associates remembered

Kakching, April 23 2024:
The heroic contributions and supreme sacrifice of Wangkhei Meiraba and his 20 associates who fought valiantly against the Britishers during the Anglo-Manipur War 1891 were commemorated today.
The commemoration ceremony was held by paying tributes at the historic site of Kakching Machin Manao Ching by a large number of people and members of Langsai Thouna today organised by Peoples' Museum, Kakching.
Speaking at the occasion, former MLA of Kakching AC, Y Surchandra highlighted the importance of declaring the site of Kakching Machin Manao Ching as a historic site by the relevant authorities of the Government to preserve its historical significance.
He also raised concern on the construction of illegal structures on the hill range of Kakching Machin Manao Ching and the excavation activities.
In view of the above, he urged the relevant authorities to look into this serious matter at the earliest.
Furthermore, the former MLA also stressed on the need of making collective efforts by the locals of Kakching to develop this site as a tourist spot.
