Imphal, December 20 2024:
Among the cultural universities of the country, Manipur University of Culture (MUC) is leading in academic performance mainly due to sincerity and dedication of teachers of the university, stated MUC vice chancellor professor Paonam Gunindro.
Professor Gunindro shared his opinion at the presentation of a play named 'Laampi - A posthumous daughter', the final production of MA 4th semester students of theatre department of MUC, at Maharaja Chandrakirti auditorium, Palace compound on Friday.
As chief guest of the programme, professor Gunindro said there are 1,113 universities in the country with 480 of them run by state governments.
Till date, there are only three cultural universities in India with the first - Utkal University of Culture, set up in Orissa (now Odisha), followed by MUC, Manipur and the third Majuli University of Culture, in Assam.
In terms of physical infrastructure, Utkal and Majuli universities have made significant progress, though MUC is leading among the three universities in academic performance, he said and lauded teachers of the cultural varsity.
According to professor Gunindro, MUC established in 2015 is comparatively new university but has been able to draw attention of authorities of other universities due to academic performance.
They are now eager to visit MUC in the wake excellent performance shown by students of MUC in the global summit for universities, he maintained, while conceding that MUC officials are reluctant to formally invite authorities of the two other cultural university in view of MUC's poor infrastructures.
The event was also attended by MUC deputy registrar Dr Lourembam Surji, theatre department head Toijam Shila Devi and other officials of the varsity.
