CPI-M leader, writer succumb to Covid-19

Imphal, May 18 2021:
Veteran leader of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Thoudam Komol has reportedly succumbed to Covid-19 on Tuesday.
He was 78.Komol joined the Communist party in 1966 and since then he had been working tirelessly for the working class.
After retiring from the profession of teaching, he contested assembly election twice from Khundrakpam constituency in 1995 and 2002 as CPI (M) candidate.
Meanwhile, CPI (M) Manipur State Committee secretary Kshetrimayum Shanta has expressed deepest condolence over the demise of Komol.
The red flag of the party was flown at half-mast as a respect to the departed leader, he informed, and conveyed of sharing grief and pain of the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, writer and lyricist Thiyam Ibohal also died on Tuesday due to Covid complications.
Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti conveyed that an emergency virtual condolence meeting was conducted and mourned the sudden demise of Ibohal.
A two-minute silence was also observed and the Samiti shared the grief of the bereaved family.
Ibohal was the general secretary of the Samiti for the term 1969-1970 and his poetry book 'Rekha' gave a huge influence in Manipuri literature, added a Samiti release.
