Search Ops continue; IED, firearms recovered

Imphal, January 18 2022: In view of the upcoming Republic Day celebration and assembly elections, seven CDO teams of Kakching district commando unit assisted by lady personnel conducted cordon and search operation in Kakching Lamkhai area Tuesday.

The operation team led by OC/CDO inspector Md Abash Khan carried out searches from 3.30pm till 4.45pm with around 130 people rounded up and verified at the spot.

No one was detained or arrested in the operation.

A large team of Imphal East district police commando led by additional SP (Ops) Herojit also conducted search operation at Saichang, Keihao and Bongpal Khullen villages under Thoubal Dam PS.

The police team searched around 200 houses of the villages and verified every member of the houses but no arrest was made.

On the other hand, a commando team of Imphal West district police led by DSP (CDO) Md Riyazuddin conducted operation from Keishamthong Top Leirak to Ahanthem Leikai on Tuesday from 6am.After verification of every member of the houses, the police commando team picked up four bail-out insurgents and handed them over to Imphar police station for further verification.

Another team of CDO Imphal West led by OC inspector P Achouba also searched Bora Galli, Thangal bazar road, Ngari Galli, Kasturi bridge and Nagamapal areas under City police station from 3pm and verified around 180 individuals.

Six individuals were later picked up and handed over to City PS for further verification.

In another security related activities, Joupi and Phundrei Battalions of Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) in a joint operation with Manipur Police recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Kuljang village in Chandel district on Monday.

In separate releases, PRO IGAR (S) and PIB (DW) informed that based on specific inputs, troops of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched an operation which led to timely identification and disarming of the IED by the bomb disposal squad.

The IED was meant to target the movement of local populace as well as the Security Forces along the Sugnu-Joupi road, it said, adding that after sanitisation of the area, the recovered IED was destroyed on the spot itself for ensuring security in the area and prevention of any loss to life or property.

Meanwhile, security forced recovered cache of arms and ammunition from different places in Bishnupur and Chandel districts on Tuesday.

According to police report, a combined team of Bishnupur commando and 36 AR conducted extensive search operation in between Chinglangmei village and Khoijumantabi Makha Leikai upon receiving information about the presence of suspected hideout of UG cadres at Khoijumantabi Makha Leikai Ching and adjoining Napat.

During the operation, a cache of arms and ammunition which were kept concealed at Khoijumantabi Makha Leikai Ching were recovered.

The seized arms and ammunition included one each M-16 riles made in USA, SLR (Regd No.Mark as 15300477), 7.62 modified rifle, Chinese hand grenade, I-COM set (IC-V87) along with set charger, 5.56 M-16 magazine, two 7.62 magazines, four 5.56 M-16 rounds, eight 7.62 SLR ammunition and three 7.62 AK ammunition.

The seized arms were handed over to Kumbi police station.

A combined team of Churachandpur police and traffic police also arrested a man with arm and ammunition near Churachandpur police station.

The arrested person has been identified Lemsang Singson (36) son of late Hank-hohen Singson of Longkaiphon village.

According to police, Churachandpur Traffic police under OC Traffic James Lianzagou Vaiphei and Churachandpur police team under OC N Ingocha Singh conducted their duties of traffic management, frisking and checking in front of Churachandpur police station around 3.35 pm on Tuesday.

A man who came riding a Dio scooter (MN02 9541) along with a pillion rider fled from the spot upon seeing the police resulting in a chase by the joint team.

The pillion rider jumped from the scooter and fled towards the crowd but the rider was caught.

While checking the scooter's, toolbox, one country made carbine and one SLR magazine containing 19 foreign ammunition were found wrapped in a white colour bag.

A case has been taken up by CCpur police station in this regard, it added.
