Shops in Kangpopi town allowed to open

All shops in Kangpokpi town are finally allowed to open by following directives issued by the district administration.
The move came after the local bodies under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee held a joint meeting wherein a decision to ease the restrictions was taken.
Earlier, all shops marked as 'A' and 'B' opened alternately from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Town Committee chairman L Kipgen in his representation submitted to the DC Kangpokpi stated that the local bodies including Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization, Kangpokpi Youth Union and Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee discussed at length steps taken up by the district administration and locals to curb the further spread of COVID-19 in Kangpokpi town.
He said that the active participation of the district administration, district police, COVID Task Force, Kangpokpi and others saved the town from a worse situation.
However, garment shopkeepers made a verbal complaint stating that they are unable to earn a living and pay the house rent due to the lockdown and that most of the shopkeepers in Kangpokpi town are migrant shopkeepers from different parts of the country, he added.
The Town Committee chairman further stated that considering the condition of the shopkeepers "we have decided to continue Kangpokpi bazar lockdown in a previous manner applied by the district administration, i.e 'A' marked shops on day one and 'B' marked shops on the next day, alternately, from 7 am to 3 pm" .
While DC Kangpokpi is yet to respond to the KTC representation, a source from the town committee said that 'A' marked shops in the town will start opening on Thursday.
Meanwhile, following the death of an 80-year-old man from Keithelmanbi, the fatality count due to COVID-19 in Kangpokpi district has climbed to 46 while 11 new positive cases were detected in the past 24 hours.
It may be mentioned that new positive cases are being detected daily in Kang-pokpi town with almost 20 active cases in the town alone till Wednesday.
