Imphal, June 14 2013 :
Anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Chanu Sharmila has expressed apprehension about the future of indigenous people over non-implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State.
She was talking to media persons when she was brought to the Court of Duty Magistrate/JMIC, Imphal East at Lamphelpat today.
Sharmila further said that unrestrained influx of non-locals is threatening the existence of indigenous people of Manipur.
The State government's stance on ILP is pitiful as it has not been worked out on grounds of objection raised by the Central government.
The apathy of the State government towards the welfare of indigenous people is quite unfortunate, she observed.

The State government should stop considering the movement on ILP as "anti-national" and take up effective measures to check influx of non-locals.
The leaders of the State should play pivotal roles in safeguarding the rights of indigenous people from the dominance of non-locals, Sharmila contended.
Dwelling on the draconian military law AFSPA, the Iron Lady said that the State government should think over the continued imposition of AFSPA in the State.
Such draconian law has not been enforced in other parts of the country even though they are infested with terrorism.
The discriminatory attitude of the Indian government towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast is condemnable, she averred.
Sharmila further maintained that the State government hesitates to put up the issue of AFSPA in the Assembly.
The State leaders are simply working under the command of the Central government and they have no concern for the welfare of their people, she noted.
She also expressed regret over non-functioning of Manipur Human Rights Commission which was once active in checking rights violation in the State.
