Charhajare curfew spat ends, another crops up at Sekmai

Kangpokpi, June 13 2021: While the issue of alleged curfew violation and police highhandedness at Charhajare wherein a police officer of Kangpokpi even got suspended has been resolved on Saturday, a similar incident cropped up at Sekmai as a theologian alleged Sekmai police of objectionable attitude while enforcing the curfew.

The matter of curfew violation by public and highhandedness of Motbung police outpost personnel was resolved amicably during a joint meeting of civil society organisations of Kangpokpi district and Charhajare on Saturday at Charhajare community hall.

Representatives of Navin Gorkha Youth Club, Women Society Charhajare and All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union represented the victim's party while KSO Sadar Hills, TYA Sadar Hills and Motbung Youth Club represented the CSOs of Kangpokpi during the joint meeting.

The meeting resolved and compromised the issue without any condition on humanitarian ground while the departmental enquiry initiated against Motbung police outpost SI Lenginthang Misao shall be withdrawn following the understanding reached between the two parties.

It may be recalled that one Pradeep Karki of Charhajare had alleged Mot- bung police outpost commander of harassing and assaulting him on ground of violating curfew on June 7 evening while the COVID Task Force Motbung area blamed Pradeep Karki of arrogance against police personnel who were toiling hard day and night for the wellbeing of the public while he intentionally violated the curfew and COVID advisories.

In connection with the incident, Kangpokpi SP suspended post commander of Motbung police outpost.

Meanwhile, a theologian from Kangpokpi district has accused Sekmai police of displaying highhandedness and indiscipline attitude while enforcing curfew at Kanglatongbi on Saturday.

Speaking to media persons, Jangkholun Haokip, a theologian at Manipur Theological College, contended said that he was physically assaulted and verbally abused by personnel of Sekmai police at Kanglatongbi while going to Imphal for an emergency work at about 3 on Saturday.

He alleged that police personnel of Sekmai PS detained him at Kanglatongbi near Chil Chil Asian College entry junction and asked to pay Rs 400 as fine for violating curfew while other vehicles and people were not detained and free to move on the highway.
