Imphal, June 12 2024:
Urging the government to discuss thoroughly and restore peace in Jiribam and all over Manipur, World Meitei Organisation (WMO) cautioned that not only Manipur but India might be broken apart if peace is not restored and people get furious.
In a release, WMO media co-ordinator Pibarel Mangang denounced the killing of Soibam Saratkumar Singh of Jiribam Sorok Atingbi Khunou on June 6 and the subsequent restive situation gripping Jiribam.
Pibarel expressed resentment that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's bid to downplay the conflict in Manipur is creating multiple problems for the people bes-dies loss of lives and damage to properties.
Amit Shah remarking that the Manipur violence has no relevance to act of terrorism deepens suspicion about a hidden agenda, he alleged.
Pointing out that there was relative peace in Jiribam for over a year amid the conflict raging in other parts of the state, Pibarel held both the state and central governments responsible for the killing of Sarat arid damages caused to houses and government offices in Jiribam along with contending that the violence spread due to incompetency of the government to prevent the same.
He questioned how a government with more than 40,000 security personnel at its disposal failed to control the situation in a small district like Jiribam.
The state government should be shameful for displacing the people and making them stay at relief camps instead of protecting them by deploying adequate security forces, he maintained, while questioning whether it is an agenda to fulfil the 'Separate Administration' demand of the Kukis.
Further enquiring why the government has not been able tp arrest the 4/5 people involved in abduction and killing of Sarat in broad day light till now, Pibarel opined that the people would appreciate if the chief minister resigns on moral ground instead of clinging on to the post.
