New CM unlikely in immediate future: MLA Shyam
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, February 12 2025: Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam assured that positive actions would be taken in line with the wishes and desires of the people of Manipur within the next few days.

However, he also indicated that the appointment of a new chief minister in the immediate future is unlikely.

MLA Shyam was responding to media queries as he emerged from a meeting with BJP North East in-charge MP Dr Sambit Patra, at Hotel Imphal on Wednesday.

MP Patra has been in the state since February 9 and holding discussions with BJP and allied MLAs at Hotel Imphal.

MLA Shyam, who called on Dr Sambit around 1:30 pm, explained that he discussed state-related matters and the welfare of the people with the BJP national spokesperson.

He assured that the central government would act in accordance with the wishes of the people, stressing that for every problem, there is definitely a solution.

Stating that positive changes are expected in the coming days, he, however, reiterated that there is remote chance of appointment of a new chief minister in the immediate future.

When asked about the potential positive changes, given that the people of the state are speculating about imposition of President's Rule or Suspended Animation of the state assembly, and whether he could provide any hint on the matter, MLA Karam Shyam stated that any forthcoming changes would be announced by the central and state BJP leaders.

He emphasised that it would not be appropriate for him to disclose everything at the juncture.

However, he assured that there would be concrete developments within the next two days.

The MLA also claimed that there is 'no constitutional crisis' after the resignation of N Biren Singh as the chief minister.

Shyam said the ongoing issues would be resolved by the Centre with the help of legislators.

"I don't know about the President's Rule.

I think the problem (ongoing leadership crisis) will be resolved by the Centre with the help of the legislators.

I think there is no constitutional crisis in Manipur", the BJP MLA said.

A BJP delegation led by Patra had on Tuesday met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan amid a leadership crisis following the resignation of N Biren as the chief minister on February 9.Responding to a question on the expiry of the maximum six-month interval between two consecutive sessions of the state assembly, he said, "Let's see what happens".

Meanwhile, experts have warned that with no one staking claim to form the government so far, the BJP-ruled Manipur may head towards a constitutional crisis.

If the situation remains so, the state is likely to be under President's rule, they said.

Dr Sambit Patra has been meeting the Governor Ajay Kumar Bhala on a daily basis ever since he landed in Manipur along with the chief minister N Biren on February 9 .

However, the details of these meetings have not been disclosed to the media.

Scribes of various national media are also stationed in Imphal, covering the politically sensitive situation in the state.

On Wednesday around 10 am, Dr Sambit, accompanied by BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K Sharat, met with the Governor.

As they left Raj Bhawan, media personnel attempted to approach them for comments about the meeting.

However, the team left without providing any information to the waiting journalists.

The BJP national spokesperson also declined to comment when approached by the media at Hotel Imphal.

Speculations are rife that the visiting BJP national leader might have discussed the possibility of placing the state under suspended animation with the Governor.

Upon learning that Sambit Patra would return to New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, media persons gathered outside the hotel.

At the same time, CAF & PD minister L Susindro came to meet Sambit Patra.

When media persons enquired about any political development as he emerged out of the hotel after meeting Sambit Patra, minister Susindro too offered no response and simply said 'No comment' .
