Satellite-tagged Amur Falcons released

Tamenglong, November 08 2024:
As many as 11 Amur falcons fitted with GPS tracking were released at Chiuluan village, Tamenglong district on Friday.
These birds were captured by a team of Tamenglong forest division, with assistance from local volunteers, under the guidance of Dr Suresh Kumar, who is Scientist F at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, as part of a research programme under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Two of the Amur Falcons were named 'Chiuluan2' and 'Guangram', primary roosting villages of the migratory bird species in Tamenglong district.
With approval from principal chief conservator of forests and chief wildlife warden of Manipur, Anurag Bajpai, these falcons were equipped with satellite transmitters to help track their migratory routes.
The release was led by Tamenglong DFO Kh Hitler, in the presence of Dr Suresh Kumar, Joel Gangmei (RFO, Tamenglong), chairman and Village Authority members of Chiuluan village, members of the Rainforest Club Tamenglong, and staff of Tamenglong Forest Division.
Alongside the satellite-tagged falcons, two others named 'Riangsuanei' and 'Laisana' were also ringed and tagged with the ID [email protected].
The remaining seven falcons were also released, each ringed with BNHS identification numbers ranging from C58352 to C58362 .
