Nearly 10 kg opium/brown sugar, 1306 WY tablets seized

A team of Churachandpur police station and Sangaikot PS arrested a man along with 6.167 Kg of opium on Wednesday at Jangmun village in Churachandpur district.
The arrestee has been identified as Holngam Haokip (50), son of Holkhol an Haokip of Govajang village under Sangaikot sub-division in Churachandpur district.
According to police, on receipt of input about transportation of contraband drugs from Khuangkhai side towards Sangaikot area, a requisition was made to the Churachandpur district magistrate to depute one executive magistrate for search and interception following which SDM/ Sangaikot Solomon L Fimate was detailed for the same.
Thereafter, a team of Churachandpur PS led by officer in-charge and Sangaikot PS team led by SI T Jangkholal Haokip and ASI Hemminthang Haokip including the SDM rushed to Jangmun village and conducted frisking and checking of all vehicles coming towards Sangaikot area, the police informed.
A passenger vehicle Tata DI Pick-up with one unknown person later identified as Holngam Haokip suspected to be in possession of contraband substances was detained.
On thorough checking, suspected opium concealed in a black bag covered in a black plastic was detected from his possession, the police detailed, adding that on preliminary interrogation, the arrestee revealed that the suspected opium was collected from one Kappu, a Myanmarese at the border and he (Holngam) was hired for transporting the illicit drug, the police informed.
The suspected opium weighing 6.167 Kg was seized at 2 pm and packed and sealed in the presence of the SDM and other witnesses while Holngam was arrested by observing formalities.
A case has also been registered under ND & PS Act for further investigation.
A team of Churachandpur police station and Women police station also arrested a man along with 1306 suspected WY tablets on Tuesday at Bijang village area in Churachandpur district.
The arrestee has been identifies as Kamkhosei Hanghal (33) son of late Lhukhopao of Mongnelphai presently residing at Bijang family lane in Churachandpur district.
According to police, on receipt of reliable information that one Kamkhosei Hanghal was frequently selling/supplying WY tablets (narcotic substance) in Bijang village areas, a requisition was made to the DM/CCP to depute one EM for conducting house search at the residence of the suspected person.
Accordingly, a team of CCP PS led by ASI M Daniel accompanied by women personnel rushed to the residence of Kamkhosei Hanghal and conducted search in the presence of SDM/Tuibuong Jangminlien Lupho and independent witnesses.
During search, seven plastic packets suspected to contain WY tablets were detected concealed inside a plastic basket.
On opening of the plastic packets suspected WY tablets totalling 1306 in number, Rs 14,990 in cash suspected to be proceeds of drug transaction and one mobile phone 'INFINIX' were recovered, the police said.
The suspected WY tablets were then packed and sealed in a white cloth in the presence of SDO/Tuibuong and independent witness and Kamkhosei Hanghal was ar -rested.
A case has also been registered under ND & PS Act for further investigation.
In another drug haul case, troops of Sajik Tampak Battalion of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) recovered brown sugar approximately weighing 3 kg and estimated to worth Rs 6 crore from general area Aisi village in Chandel district on Wednesday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), a mobile vehicle check post was established in gen eral area Aisi village based on specific inputs about transportation of narcotic substances.
During search and frisking operation at the check post, one individual was found with 275 soap cases containing approximately 3 kg of brown sugar.
The recovered items along with the smuggler have been handed over to Chakpikarong police station for further investigation.
