Kalinamei, August 06 2014: A group of philanthropic doctors from Mumbai led by Dr.Ulhas Vasave organised an Eye Surgery Camp at Mao Community Health Centre (CHC) and operated about 20 cataract cases free of cost along with their instruments and equipments.

Speaking at the Camp site, Dr.Ulhas Vasave said, "The smile brought to the patients after the treatment is overwhelming and that is the ultimate reward" .

He further remarked "Warm welcome, hospitality and cooporation both from the District Administration and Civil organizations given to us is what encourages in our mission to give sight to many.

We do not want anything.

Gratitude on the face of the patients is what we work for" .

Earlier in April 2014, a screening was held for over 400 people and cataract cases were identified in 114 persons.

During the camp, eye surgeons removed the defected cataract and replaced them by quality Intro Ocular Lens (IOL) brought from Mumbai.

The team also identified Mao and Tadubi for further screening of cataract cases, the organisers said.

During interactions at the camp site, an elderly patient commented, "At this age, I did not expect to recover my sight.

My children are poor and did not want to trouble them but God's grace brought these philanthropic doctors who gave me sight again" .

"Being a critical surgery it requires varied medications, but we are not able to get adequate medicines in the area", remarked one of the Doctors in the team which consisted of Dr.Javhvi Mehta, Dr.Ulhas Vasave, Anand Pawar, and Sanjay Bodake.

The Eye Surgery Camp organized by Intouch, a local NGO in collaboration with Rotary Club of Mao and Ashufiimei Development Society was hosted by CHC Mao, District Health Society, Senapati and supported by District Administration, Senapati.

Sponsored by National Blindness Control Programme and Facilitating Team from J.V Gokal Charity Trust, Mumbai, the camp was assisted by Oking Hospital Kohima with technical supports and supply of standby equipments.
