Imphal, February 05 2018: The Committee Against Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Bill/Act 2017, has demanded the State Government to make necessary amendments or modifications to the said Bill and ensure the survival of private schools which were recognised by the Government, COHSEM and BOSEM, before September 11 (last year) .

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the general secretary of the committee, Heisnam Malemkhomba , said that although the committee as well as various associations have informed the authorities concerned regarding the possible inconveniences which will be caused by the Bill, not a single positive action has been taken up till date.

Pointing out that the uncertainty surrounding the Bill has caused great inconveniences to the students and the guardians as well, he alleged that the Bill has rendered many private schools, which fail to meet some of the criteria mentioned in the Bill, useless, but at the same time, the Bill favoured some schools which have connection/links with high ranking people or officials.

Claiming that the Bill will generate confusion among the people by creating a large divide between private and Government schools, the general secretary accused the Government of trying to eliminate private schools from the competition.

He also alleged that the Government's attempt to hide schools which are not recognised as well as those which possess fake recognition certificates, only show that the Bill is being used for parties with vested interest.

Malemkhomba further demanded the authority concerned to make necessary amendments or modification to the Bill during the ongoing Assembly session, failing which the committee will launch various forms of agitation.
