Imphal, September 19, 2009:
The Apunba Lup has called off its 60-hour statewide general strike which began last midnight in view of two important festivals, Mera Chaorel Houba and Id-ul-fitr.
A statement issued by the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup also conveyed its regret for causing inconvenience to the people on Mera Chaorel Houba due to the general strike.
It appealed the people to join in future course of agitations.
Meanwhile, a separate press statement issued by the WCAL observed that the resignation of CM Ibobi from his post, before a big fire erupted out of a small spark, will be the only solution to turn the land into a peaceful one.
If not, it will end up inviting a civil war.
The WCAL statement cautioned that the agitations against the Khwairamband fake encounter incident cannot be subsided by firing smoke bombs, rubber bullets, tear gas, and arresting some persons and detaining them under NSA.
Urging the supporting MLAs of Ibobi to stop their supports, the statement asserted that it is time now to join the people's quest for justice.
It urged the MLAs not to maintain their silences even when the Assembly has been turned into a place where falsehood is propagated.
Appealing the participation of the politicians, intellectuals, and all sections of the society, it urged all concerned to be a source of strength for the movement for the toppling of Ibobi.
It reiterated to continue carry on the agitations until the demands are met while also expressing gratitude to the people for their unstinted support to the agitations.
