Source: Chronicle News Service / DIPR

CCpur, September 28 2022: Chief Minister N Biren on Wednesday visited S Kholian (Thingkeu village), Henglep sub-division of Churachandpur district and laid foundation stones for Amusement cum Children Park to be constructed at Songpi village at an estimated cost of Rs 4.8 crore and Improvement/Up-grade of Henglep Thingkeu Tipaimukh Road (31.782 Km) with a work order amount of Rs 75.94 crore.

The chief minister also inaugurated the six classrooms of Henglep High School constructed at a project cost of Rs 57.28 lakh and Transit Quarter (for medical and education staff) with a project cost of Rs 73.67 lakh, both under Backward Block Development Fund, North Eastern Council.

Addressing the gathering, N Biren stated that the Go to Hills mission was launched to bridge the developmental gaps between hill and valley regions after he became chief minister in 2017.Since then, the Go to Hills programme and even cabinet meetings are being held at different district headquarters to review the progress of developmental works taken up in the areas, he said.

With reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's way of governance based on humanity and to work for the welfare of people, the chief minister stressed the need to keep aside all the differences and enmity and work together for the inclusive development.

He further called Churachandpur as the luckiest district as a medical college with 100 seats of MBBS has been established, recognising the potential of the people of the district.

As such, he appealed to the public to refrain from bandh and strike to express their grievance and rather come up for talks to solve the issue.

He further urged public support in government's ini tiatives to take up different projects for the development of the district.

Regarding the road development work at Tipaimukh Road (NH-150), N Biren requested the NHIDCL officials to make a proposal for widening the road into double lane as the locals have agreed not to take land compensation.

He also informed that an Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) would be constructed at Henglep headquarters, citing its backwardness.

Regarding upgrade of the health centre and construction of a community hall at P Sejol village, he assured to look into the matter.

Informing that Churachandpur district is also included among the seven districts where the government is constructing amusement parks, he asked the people of the district to plan well and keep some lands reserved for taking up development works.

He further appealed to the public not to carry out deforestation for poppy plantations as it not only affects the environment but makes the youths addicted to drugs.

He instructed the superintendent of police to take up immediate actions against those carrying out poppy plantations in the district.

Talking exclusively to TPC, the chief minister said that with the instruction from the Hill Areas Committee different levels of committee have been formed and opinions are being collected from various civil society organisations as regards holding of ADC election and once the process is completed, the election will be held.

Regarding poor rood connectivity in the hill areas, the chief minister said that there is no dearth of funds but the problem is land compensation and unreasonable demand for compensation which gets in the way of carrying out road construction works across the length and breadth of the state.

If people stand behind the government and desist from creating problems by not claiming compensation like the way the people of Henglep, Kamjong and Tamenglong do then construction of roads and other forms of communication can be taken up properly, CM Biren added.

Henglep MLA Letzamang Haokip also announced that people residing on the Henglep roadside will not demand compensation.

The MLA also said that he was happy to see people abstaining from poppy cultivation under the War on Drug 2.0.At the same time, Letzamang said that he could still see from a chopper some pockets where residents are trying to carry on with the poppy activities and he warned that the police team and CSOs will be sent to check the area.

Works minister Govindas Konthoujam, Tribal Affairs & Hills minister Letpao Haokip, Hill Areas Committee chairman Dinganglung Gangmei and Henglep AC MLA Letzamang Haokip accompanied the chief minister during his visit.

Administrative secretaries, deputy commissioner and SP Churachandpur, government officials and village authorities also attended the programme among others.
