A press release issued by the Managing Trustee of PFA, L Biswajeet Meitei today stated that the two were hauled up after PFA got news that some non-Manipuris were selling chicks which were painted in various colours at Thoubal bazar area.
One non-Manipuri, reportedly from West Bengal, was detained along with 45 coloured chicks.

The PFA volunteers were able to seize a total of 100 coloured chicks from the two non-Manipuris.
Upon questioning, it was learned that they had been staying for the last 4/5 days at the residence at Keirao.
Even though their trade was not legal according to the law, their crime was non-cognizable.
As such they were let off after stern warning not to repeat such actions in the future.
The 100 coloured chicks, however, were taken to PFA shelter.
It informed that the chicks, which are popular with the kids, are painted using colours dissolved in water.
After the chicks are painted, they are inhumanely left to dry in the sun for a long period of time.
Pointing out suffering experienced by the chicks, it appealed to all not to buy such painted chicks.
