Ex-MLAs Devendro joins JDU, Surchandra leaves Cong

Imphal, January 12 2022: Sekmai AC ex-MLA Kh Devendro along six other intending candidates, who joined the Janata Dal United (JDU) were felicitated during a function held at the party's office at Hodam Leirak Machin, Airport Road on Wednesday Besides Devendro, the new JD-U members include Ph Dhanabir of Kumbi, Chungjalen Haokip of Chandel, Ninghui Keishing of Phungyar, Genneikhup Vaiphei of Henglep, Dr John Pulamte of Saikot and Thangkhosei Guite of Thanlon ACs.

Speaking on the occasion, JDU Manipur State president HangkhanpaO Taithul informed that as of now the party is planning to field 15 candidates in the upcoming state assembly election.

There is possibility of some sitting MLAs joining the party and as such, the number of candidates could be increased.

The number could further increase to around 25 if more people were to join, in accordance with the decision of the national president of JDU, he added.

The president also informed that the party would release a 12-point manifesto with agendas such as removal of AFSPA among others.

Thus, he urged the people to give JDU the opportunity to form the next government and experience the changes to be brought on by the party.

Contending that JDU can accomplish all those which other political parties failed to do, Hangkhanpao Taithul expressed firm belief that the candidates of the party will win the upcoming polls with the support of people and play a key role in formation of the state government.

Meanwhile, Kakching AC ex-MLA Yengkhom Surchandra on Wednesday submitted his resignation from the primary membership of Indian National Congress (INC) to the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) .

It may be mentioned here that Yengkhom Surchandra contested on Congress ticket for three terms and represented Kakching AC in the state Legislative Assembly.

Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Surchandra informed that as per the wishes of the people of Kakching, he will contest the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election by joining a party which is likely to form the new government in the state.

He then predicted the formation of another coalition government of BJP, NPP and NPF, while contending that Congress will not be able to form the government, considering the high number of people leaving the party compared to the number of new members joining the party.

Comparing Congress to a sinking boat, the ex-MLA remarked that it would be better to join a party which is likely to form the government and work for the welfare of the people.

He also revealed that BJP holds his interest for now.
