Draft electoral roll of all 60 ACs released

A draft electoral of all the 60 Assembly constituencies of Manipur was released today.
During a press conference held at the conference hall of Old Secretariat today, Chief Electoral Officer VK Dewangan announced that the draft electoral roll was released.
Errors, if there are any can be corrected as well as insertions and deletions, if required can be done by October 7 at the offices of the respective EROs.
Final electoral roll of all the 60 Assembly constituencies would be released on January 2 next year with January 1, 2016 as the qualifying date.
The draft electoral roll would be discussed with electorates at the level of Gram Sabhas and local bodies on September 10 and 24, said the CEO.
Maximum efforts are being invested to make the electoral roll which would be used in the next year's State Assembly election error free.
Already 3800 voters who are demographically matching have been detected, and Electoral Registration Officers have been instructed to conduct physical verification matching records.
EROs have also been instructed to verify through booth level officers (BLOs) whether female electorates who have reached 30 years of age are listed in the electoral rolls of their parental homes or those of their in-laws.
They have also been instructed to verify whether electorates who have crossed 70 years are still alive or not, Dewangan said.
He also informed that a full team of the Election Commission of India would arrive here on September 21 to make direct assessment of the preparations being done in the State for the forthcoming Assembly election.
The ECI team would hold meetings with the CEO, nodal officers, the Chief Secretary, the DGP and political parties.
The ECI has already nominated 20 IAS officers electoral roll observers.
Joint CEO N Praveen said that the total number of the State's voters as per the draft electoral roll published today was 18,07,843 which is lower than the figure recorded in the electoral published in January this year.
Altogether 24,543 voters were deleted from the previous electoral roll while 4256 voters were added.
As per Census records, 64.11 per cent of the total population of Manipur are eligible for enlistment in the electoral roll but as of now only 54.70 per cent have been enlisted.
The total number of polling stations is 2794 .
