Deployment of tourism police announced

Imphal, November 20 2022: Informing that there will be certain changes in traffic regulations in Imphal city and areas around venues of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022, DIG (Range 3) Angam Kamei Romanus has appealed to the people of the state to strictly follow the traffic regulations including parking arrangements and help in making the festival a grand success.

Addressing a press meet at the conference hall of SP Imphal West, here, on Sunday, the DIG informed that apart from the changes in traffic regulations and parking arrangements, the state police would be deploying tourism police at different locations including district headquarters and festival venues.

In this regard, Imphal West district police has set up 28 booths for tourism police units including Imphal Airport.

The tourism police personnel will be wearing fluorescent coloured vests with 'Tourism Police' inscription, he said, while appealing to the public as well as tourists to approach the tourism police units if they face any difficulties.

Regarding the traffic rules and regulations as well as diversion and parking spaces, the home department elaborated that public parking spaces for events conducted at BOAT, Hapta Kangjeibung and Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen will be at Raja Dumbra Singh High School, Andro Parking, WAL Club, Wangkhei Eastern Ground, Wangkhei Keithel Ashanbi, Ningthem Pukhri Mapal and ISBT Khuman Lampak.

Parking space for Moirang Khunou will be at Bhuban High School Ground, ground near helipad and Western ground near exhibition centre for vehicles coming from Kumbi, Imphal and Churachandpur sides respectively.

For Ibudhou Marjing Complex, Heingang, parking lots will be at Tathot High School and Public Ground for vehicles coming from Imphal and Pangei sides respectively.

For routes arrangement regarding Hapta Kangjeibung, vehicles coming from Sanjenthong will cross the festival venue and park at notified parking spaces.

Vehicles coming from Checkon shall not cross festival venue while vehicles coming from Thumbuthong shall drop passengers at Thumbuthong crossing.

Official vehicles shall park at Raja Dumbra Singh High School after dropping passengers at festival venue.

VIP/VVIP vehicles shall take Moirang Keithel route and park at notified parking area after dropping passengers at the gate of the festival venue.

Visitors can take ferry service or walk to reach the festival venue from the parking area.

Parking will be strictly prohibited on either side of the road from GPO towards Sanjenthong till Thangal General statue; Thangal General statue to Hapta crossing; Thangal General statue to Nongmeibung Junior High School while single row parking will be allowed from GPO to MST for employees only.

Employees of the offices along the route can also use Ram Krishna Mission compound or MST for parking (only during Sangai festival).

Double row parking will be strictly prohibited in front of Thambal Shanglen, and along all major streets and National Highways in Greater Imphal areas.

The regulation will remain effective during the festival from 2 pm to 10 pm daily.

There will be paid transport service to ferry public from parking areas to festival venues at Moirang Khunou and Heingang.

There will be MST bus service (to and fro) daily on payment basis from MST complex (starting 8 am) to Moirang Khunou and Mao during the festival and dedicated transport service (Winger/Magic) from Johnstone parking to Hapta Kangjeibung, Heingang and Khuman Lampak on payment basis.

Frequency of service should not be more than 30 minutes interval at fare notified by the transport department.

No commercial vehicle shall be allowed to ply within Imphal city area from 6 am to 10 pm daily during the festival.

Commercial vehicles coming from Mao for Churachandpur side shall be diverted from Awang Sekmai towards Changangei-Tiddim road near the Airport.

Commercial vehicles coming from Mao to Jiribam shall be diverted from Awang Sekmai towards Sangaithel road Patsoi while commercial vehicles coming from Mao to Thoubal shall be diverted from Sangakpham towards Singjamei Bridge through Kongba Keithel-Irilbung.

All vehicles coming from Moirang Khunou to Imphal shall be diverted from Shirbon along Shirbon-Okshongbung road.

All vehicles coming from Thanga side towards Imphal/Moirang along Sendra road shall be diverted from Moirang Sendra Lamkhai towards Shirbon road.

Commercial vehicles shall not be allowed to cross Sanjenthong.

They shall take Minuthong/Lamlongthong to go from Imphal West to Imphal East and vice-versa.

All vehicles coming from Thoubal side shall be diverted from Singjamei along Chinga road (after 3 pm).

Loading and unloading of goods coming from Mao/Jiri side shall be done only during 10pm to 6 am.

For other venues like Mao, Behiang, Khuga, Geljang, Churachandpur, Cheiraoching, Langol Reserved Forest, traffic police in consultation with district administration shall identify proper routes.

DC, who is the chairman of district transport traffic regulation and parking committee (except for Imphal West and Imphal East) shall make appropriate arrangement for parking and smooth flow of traffic during the festival.

The notification also informed the public to avoid taking Sanjenthong road, especially during the evening hours throughout the festival period.
