Committee gives protest call today

The Joint Working Committee formed by 18 civil society organisations including Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur called for widespread sit-in-protests on Wednesday and urged people to shout slogans during the protest.
FOCS president Thoidingjam Manihar, who was made chairman of the joint committee, told media persons that FOCS has been urging all civil society organisations striving to defend the threat to territorial integrity of Manipur from Chin-Kuki-Zo to work together with a common agenda since the beginning of the conflict.
The same call has been made afresh and accordingly formed a joint working committee comprising 18 organisations in the state and district level.
The committee has decided to launch agitations in 'diplomatic' manner till solution of the crisis, he said.
Overwhelmed by anger, sentiment and emotion, various forms of agitations are being launched by the people right now but such agitations would not last long nor yield success.
Accordingly, the joint committee felt the need for launching agitations in diplomatic manner with suggestions from elders, experts and well-wishers, Manihar said and appealed to the people, Meira Paibi and clubs and organisations to join the widespread protest on Wednesday and shout slogans.
According to Manihar, slogans to be raised during the protest shall centre on 'Known perpetrators of crime must be given punishment immediately', 'Declare 10 Kuki-.Zo MLAs as well as ITLF and CoTU as terrorist organisations', 'State assembly should declare 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs as terrorist and book them', 'Revoke SoO', 'Immediate punishment to all involved in brutal killing of three children and three women hostages', 'Immediate review of AFSPA by convening special session of state assembly' and 'Conduct NRC in Manipur and deport illegal immigrants' .
The joint working committee was formed by FOCS and other organisations like Manipur Women's Federation, IPOM, Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup, Manipur Meitei-Pangal Welfare Organisation, Meitei-Pangal Council Manipur, KUCMA, Khuman Chanu, YEKMAL, Anouba Senmitlon, WMO, UMPC, MPF, LEVYM, BYPA, UMO, MPD, etc.
