Imphal, April 19 2024:
Congress MLA and deputy CLP leader Kangujam Ranjit Singh has demanded re-polling in 11 polling stations under Sugnu assembly constituency of Kakching district which went to the polls for the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency (ST) on Friday.
Ranjit alleged that large numbers of unidentified armed men who came on 7/8 vehicles led by former BJP candidate of Sugnu AC Shangba alias Jiban threatened voters at 11 polling stations of Sugnu AC and forcibly voted in favour of the BJP-supported NPF candidate as if in selection mode.
Threatening voters and resorting to proxy voting occurred at seven polling stations under Wangoo GP (39/14, 39/15, 39/16, 39/17, 39/18, 39/34, 39/35) and four polling stations under Chairen GP (39/19, 39/20, 39/21, 39/22), Ranjit said, adding that the unidentified armed men led by Jiban first threatened voters and then entered inside the polling stations and indulged in proxy voting in favour of the NPF candidate.
Meanwhile, INC's candidate in Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency Alfred Kanggam Arthur's election agent John Pamei has lodged a written complaint regarding the incidents at RO Thoubal and demanded re-poll in the 11 polling stations with adequate deployment of security personnel.
John Pamei's complaint mentioned that unidentified armed men threatened polling agents and workers of Congress party at 11 polling stations of Sugnu AC and indulged in proxy voting in favour of the BJP-supported NPF's candidate.
Condemning the incidents, MLA K Ranjit said that there is no democracy in Manipur and election has become selection in the state.
He further alleged that wrongful activities of BJP in the 18th Lok Sabha election both in Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur constituencies have disturbed peace and normalcy in the state.
He then urged the ECI to intervene into the booth capturing incidents and order re-poll in all the 11 polling stations.
