48-hour general strike in Thoubal suspended

Thoubal, August 03 2025: The 48-hour general strike called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Killing of Maibam Ongbi Khangemba Ningol Samita Devi in Thoubal, which was scheduled to begin from midnight of August 3 has been temporarily suspended.

According to a press release issued by the JAC, the decision to suspend the strike came after thorough consultation with local clubs and the Meira Paibis of the locality in view of the Manipur Integrity Unity Day to be held on August 4.However, the JAC issued a stem warning that if the Government of Manipur fails to disclose the post-mortem and inquiry report within the given timeline of one week, the JAC along with various Civil Societies of Manipur will intensify their agitation.

Reiterating its core demand, the JAC affirmed that it will not accept the body of the deceased until justice is served.
