Drug seizure tops police achievement in 2022

Imphal, December 31 2022: Year 2022 has been a busy year for the police department and other law enforcement agencies in the state as the year recorded record a number of drug seizures, destruction of poppy plantations, charge sheet submission in 553 cases and arrest of 354 insurgent cadres as well as seizure of arms and ammunition.

Drug Issue
In the War on Drugs campaign, drugs worth Rs 1228.90 crore in the international market were seized, and 704 individuals arrested in drug related cases while illegal poppy plantations were destroyed in 3400 acres of hill areas.

As per information received from NAB, 499 drug related cases were registered in the year.

According to the report, 72.782 kg of heroin worth Rs 145.56 crore in the international market, 495.364 kg of opium worth Rs 34.67 crore, 34.191 kg of SP tablets worth Rs 3.41 crore, 346.184 kg of WY tablets worth Rs 173.09 crore, 499.966 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 749.94 crore, 39,952 bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 3.99 crore, 9.117 kg of methamphetamine (ice Crystal) worth Rs 54.70 crore, 928.735 kg of marijuana worth Rs 92.87 crore, several other drugs such as N-10 tablets, Tramazac tablet, Valium, Simplex C, Clavitol, Pseudo Ephedrine, Nataks 10, poppy straws and poppy seeds worth Rs 62.57 crore were seized during the year.

Number of arrested people and cases registered in different types of drug seizures are 269 people in 179 cases related to heroin, 85 in 63 cases related to opium, four in three cases related to SP tablets, 65 in 42 cases related to brown sugar, 144 in 102 cases related to cough syrup, 28 in 15 cases related to cough syrup, four in two cases related to methamphetamine, five in five cases related to marijuana and five people in six cases related to other drugs.

At the same time, 19 people were arrested and 78 cases registered in connection with illegal poppy plantation.

Out of these, Narcotics and Affairs of Border seized drugs worth Rs 96.82 crore in the international market, arrested 53 individuals and registered 44 cases.

Police in different districts seized drugs worth Rs 112.10 crore while the remaining drugs were seized by other law enforcing agencies.

Law and Order
A report from ADGP (LO) L Kailun informed that there was no major law and order problem in the state during the year.

Sporadic bandhs were called but they were not effective as the district police took up preventive and effective security measures.

The report also informed that 354 cadres of different UG groups were arrested during the year.

At the same time, 20 people were detained under NSA and 85 under Prevention of Illicit Trafficking (PIT) ND&PS Act.

Arms and ammunition seized during the year include nine AK Rifles, one SLR, one M-16 Rifles, three carbines, 55 9mm pistols, one lathode gun, 12 0.22 pistols, 12 SBBL guns, four DBBL buns, 25 hand grenades, three lathode bombs, five others, one MA-1 Assault Rifles, 18 0.32 mm pistols, two shot guns, seven wireless sets, 7.85 kg of Plastic Explosives (PEK), 70 feet Cordtex, 52 detonators, and 2147 ammunition.

The arrest and seizure were made by district police of Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Thoubal, Chandel and Bishnupur.

Cases registered and charge sheets filed
The report further said that 1359 people were arrested in cases related to IPC, POCSO and other crimes, and 621 individuals were arrested under ND&PS Act, and a total of 3824 cases were registered while charge sheets were submitted in 553 cases.

Imphal West district police registered 1267 cases, final reports were submitted in 539 cases and charge sheets in 132 cases.

Imphal East district police registered 696 cases, 329 and charge sheets were submitted in 88 cases.

Achievement of other districts' police are Thoubal (500 cases, 89 final report & 121 charge sheets); Tengnoupal (145 cases, 16 final reports & 15 charge sheets); Chandel (60 cases, 16 final reports & 1 charge sheets); Kangpokpi (116 cases, 98 final reports and 24 charge sheets); and Churachandpur (234 cases, 49 final reports & 29 charge sheets) .
