Imphal, August 13 2014 :
Carrying forward the ongoing public movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, a sit-in-protest cum public meeting was organised by United Clubs' Organization (UCO), a conglomerate of seven clubs of Konthoujam area at Kanthoujam Kangjeibung Mapal Community Hall today.
After the sit-in protest cum public meeting, a protest rally attended by around 700/800 people was also taken out in and around Konthoujam area during which slogans like 'Implement ILP system in the State', 'Identify non-locals in the State', 'Resign all 60 MLAs for failing to implement the system' etc were chanted.
Speaking to media persons on sidelines of the protest demonstration, Ibotombi Khuman, convener of JCILPS who attended the meeting, reiterated that the demand for enforcement of ILP system in the State is being made to save the indigenous people who are facing serious threat from the rampant influx of outsiders and asserted that non-locals will not be affected or discriminated after the system is implemented.

He pointed out that the indigenous people will become puppets in the hands of non-locals after some years if the restrictive system is not implemented at the earliest.
The system has been already put in place in other northeastern States like Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
As such, there are no valid reasons why the same system should not be implemented here in the State, he contended.
Stating that the government has apparently failed to implement the system despite its requirement for the last many years, he cautioned that the committee will resort to other form of intense agitations until the ILP system is implemented.
Similar sit in protest to press the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system were also held at Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai, Keisham Leikai and Hiyangthang today.
