GoI attempts to create a 'single Indian Hindu nation': Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)
Source: Hueiyen News Service / Newmai News Network

Shillong, June 13 2012: The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), the prominent militant outfit based in Meghalaya said today that the government of India repeatedly attempts to create a 'single Indian Hindu nation' .

In a press communique issued to Newmai News Network tonight by HNLC publicity secretary Saikupar Nongtraw, the outfit said the Indian ruling classes know pretty well the precarious position they are in.

"The consciousness of 'Indianess' that developed during the anti colonial movement is not such a strong unifying force to keep different nationalities together in a monolithic structure.

The suffocation of various nationalities under the authoritarian centre is sharpening contradictions with bourgeoisie of various nationalities.

Therefore, to preserve the Indian union, instead of decentralizing power and giving opportunities for all the nationalities for equal development the Indian ruling classes are striving to create a false sense of nationalism.

Lack of common language being the main barrier, they are repeatedly attempting to Impose 'Hindi language' on all the Nationalities, at all levels.

Therefore, direct & indirect appeals to preserve the present political structure of India are made on the basis of religious identity, the religious passions of the Hindus.

Even the name of the State of Meghalaya is also a Sanskrit word from the Hindu literature and is not derived from the Hynniewtrep nor Garo literature.

This measures taken by the Congress proves that it is their attempt to Indianise or else to Hindunise the Hynniewtrep race," the HNLC said.

The HNLC is against all political leaders of various political parties who are in the practice to lead the people away from the truth.

It claimed the people of the Hynniewtrep race are well aware of who is exploiting the state in the name of developments.Since the Government of india act was imposed, the rights of our Hynniewtrep people were strangulated and it suffered a blow by the Sixth Schedule (Para 12(a))."The motive of the Government of India to held the municipal elections were nothing but to totally wipe away the traditional systems of Governance and the Political identity of the Hynniewtrep.

The Government of India again had imposed article 371 (G) in the State of Mizoram and Article 371(A) in the state of Nagaland as (Special status).

The council would like to make it clear that Meghalaya consists of only Hynniewtrep and the Garo Tribe.

The special provisions of the article 370 will be of no use to the Hynniewtrep people, because we will always be treated as second class citizens in India.

If article 370 was of such an importance then why is the State of Jammu & Kashmir always wanted freedom from the illegal occupation of India, and it is in article 370 that lies a lot of loopholes.

The Government of India will never understand the problems of the Minorities because since time immemorial the Instrument of Accession was not relevant and it was signed by our syiems under duress.

What had happened in Punjab was a real case of atrocities against the minorities by the government of India.

Or should we talk about the caste system in India where the Dalits are mistreated as second class citizens.

In the case of Kashmir the Government of India has consumed more innocent lives than any terrorist groups in Kashmir.

What is the use in rewarding the people of Kashmir with article 370 ? The Truth Is That You Ask a Dalit Who Converted To Christianity In Orissa - Ask the Victims Of Sikh Genocide 1984, Gujarat Genocide 1992, And 2008 Christian Genocides In Orissa By the Government of India And the Hindutva Extremists," the HNLC stated.

All the people who love this peace loving democracy must keep one thing in their minds that The Standstill agreement was a political lie.

The Instrument of Accession was forcefully signed at gunpoint, and was that not a part of an Arm's Aggression by the Indian Army?India is proud and boasts to be the largest Democracy in the World, all the defenders of this Democracy had Raped our women and shot our youths.

How can we forget, every drop of blood of our brothers will be accounted for.The Indian Government, should never underestimate a Dormant Volcano...it may explode at any moment and engulf it in fire.

The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council said it will keep on moving with its stand to defend the rights of the Hynniewtrep people and Hynniewtrep nation for a better tomorrow.

The government is the potent omnipresent teacher.

For good or ill it teaches the whole people by its example.

Crime is contagious.

If the government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto him; it invites anarchy.

To declare that the end justifies the means -- to declare that the government may commit crimes -- would bring terrible retribution, the outfit stated.

The Hynniewtrep National Liberation (HNLC) then expressed its dissatisfaction on the ongoing developments of the traditional chiefs of Meghalaya.

The outfit also expressed the same feeling of anger against the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in relation to the Instrument of Accession 1947 .

It said on May 16, 1946 , the British Cabinet Mission released its statement known as the "16th May 1946 Mission Statement".

Para 15th of the above statement states that units of state would fall under the supervision of the Indian government on three areas mainly the Defence, the Foreign Affairs and Communication. According to the HNLC, Sardar Vallabhai Patel , the then chairman of the constituent Assembly Committee for Minorities ,had firmly stated that the Hynniewtrep state would fall under the Indian Government supervision only in those particular subject mentioned earlier .

As far as the other subjects are concerned , the final decision would rest with the 'hima Hynniewtrep' alone .

Based on this statement , the Hynniewtrep states agreed to sign an agreement known as "The Standstill Agreement ".

On the 8th August 1947 , the federation of the khasi states send a message to the Indian government that they were ready to attach themselves to the Indian Union only on the three subjects mentioned in the statement issued by the "Mission Statement".

But on the 9th August 1947 , the federation of khasi states had to , without delay , sign the Standstill Agreement .

This document stated that the prevailing arrangements would stand or be in force for the period of two years till new arrangement are made .

"However , when India achieved its Independence , the Standstill Agreement was broken only with in six to seven months since the day it came into force .

This was done by forcing the Hynniewtrep ' syiems ' or kings to immediately sign the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement (document that pertained to the accession and common agreement on annexation of Hynniewtrep states to the Indian Union) .

The hynniewtrep kings were very much opposed to signing the documents but were helpless at that point of time as , under duress and with guns pointed at them , they had no other way but to sign the same .

As other kings had opposed to this act of coercion by the Indian Government , Prince Wickliffe of hima Nongstoin also joined hands with his fellow rulers in going against the Indian Union It was the Indian national Congress under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru which was responsible for forcefully signing the Instrument of Accession and annexed agreement at gunpoint.

It was the Congress party under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, which had not paid any heed to the borders and boundaries of the Hynniewtrep nor did it provide any kind of political freedom for which we are having disputes everyday with our neighbouring states.

The people of our region must be comprehensible that U Tirot Sing Syiem, Kiang nangbah were not Indian freedom fighters, but instead they had a different cause to fight against the imperative rule of the Britishers," the HNLC concluded.
