CM sees Marjing complex as world class tourist spot

Imphal, November 25 2022: While highlighting that there are much more to be developed including expansion of the field and ground levelling of the Ibudhou Marjing Complex at Heingang, chief minister N Biren Singh has said that efforts to develop the Complex into a world class tourist spot will continue even after the culmination of Manipur Sangai Festival.

Speaking as the chief guest of Friday evening's function of Manipur Sangai Festival at Ibudhou Marjing, the CM observed that we are able to organise a horse riding and 'Arambai' demonstration as part of the day's events, with the grace of Ibudhou Marjing.

He also informed that permanent structures and traditional huts have been constructed at Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirang Khunou, which will be further developed by including kitchens or bathrooms to utilise them as home-stays for tourists.

Biren then highlighted the various measures taken up for the preservation of the indigenous pony, stating that around 14-15 acres have already been developed as grazing ground on the Pangei side of the Heingang hill and at the same time, another 30 acres have been reserved at Lamphelpat for preservation works of the pony.

The CM continued that this year's edition of Manipur Sangai Festival is being successfully organised with support and cooperation of the people under the theme of 'Festival of Oneness'.

He then expressed happiness over the festival being held at various venues across the state with participation by all communities.

Biren further lauded and appreciated officials and security personnel involved in the smooth organising of the festival and said that new initiatives regarding security have also been introduced, including the Mounted Police (Sagol Police), Tourist Police, who are there to guide the tourists.

At the same time, considering the safety of the women, around 100 women commandos have been deployed at various venues, he added.

The evening function was also attended by Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department minister Kashim Vashum, advocate general Lenin Hijam, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, Kumbi MLA Sanasam Premchandra Singh and chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, among others.

During the event, the Chief Minister also flagged off a horse race.

An 'Arambai' throwing demonstration was held as part of the event.

The dignitaries, who were visibly elated with the Arambai demonstrations, handed financial rewards to the horse riders.

CM Biren also released a leaflet on the Sacred Place of Ibudhou Marjing.

Delegates from Myanmar and Japan who came to witness the Manipur Sangai Festival were also felicitated during the event.
