Imphal, December 20 2024:
Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi Singh has condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his disrespectful remarks on Dr BR Ambedkar, and demanded an apology.
He also criticised the ruling parties, stating it is "shameful'' for them to stage protests.
On Friday, former chief minister Ibobi joined fellow Congress leaders, including MPCC president K Meghachandra, deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, and MLA Th Lokeshwar, in a protest rally, in condemnation of the chaotic altercations between Opposition and Ruling MPs during Thursday's session of Parliament in the ongoing winter session.
The rally started at Congress Bhawan and concluded at the same location after passing through the western gate of Kangla and BT Road.
Speaking to reporters, Ibobi described Thursday's incident at the Parliament and the resultant unfounded allegations against AICC president Mallikar-jun Kharge and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi as unprecedented in Indian history.
He questioned the rationale of the ruling parties' protests and remarked, "It is shameful for ruling parties to stage protest neither is it clear who they are addressing their demands to".
He said that his party staged the rally to protest the registration of FIRs against Congress leaders and call for Shah's apology.
According to O Ibobi, the Prime Minister should take action against Union home minister Amit Shah for disrespectful remark against Dr BR Ambedkar, who took major role in drafting of the Indian Constitution.
MPCC president K Meghachandra also told media persons on the sidelines of the protest that Thursday's incident between the Ruling and Opposition MPs was an attack on AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and demanded investigation into the incident.
He alleged that BJP's introduction of 'One nation, one election' Bill in the Parliament was against nation's federalism and was an attempt to divert the Manipur issue and unemployment in the country, among others.
