No budgetary allocation for GTH, GTV: N Loken

Maintaining that the BJP government has done nothing except building some footbridges, MPCC president N Loken said that the government's programmes like Go to Hills and Go to Village and announcement of packages during such programmes are political gimmicks as there is no budgetary allocations for GTH and GTV.
Attending a felicitation function organised in his honour at the residence of ex-MP Dr T Meinya at Joypurkhul, Khumbong on Monday, Loken said that many thought that the Central government would provide various financial packages to the state if there is a BJP government here.
However, the outcome is quite the opposite.
Since the first year, the government is facing financial issues and today, the government is unable to pay salaries for its employees in time, he said.
The situation shows that double engine government is just a myth and it brings nothing good for the state, he added.
There was Congress government for two years in the state when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power at the Centre.
The economic position the state had during those two years was far better than the situation being experienced in the last four and half years of BJP rule and the public did not suffer like today, he said.
The Congress MLA also slammed the BJP government for its failure to control price rise, maintain good road connectivity even in Imphal areas and other failures.
Upgrading Manipur University to a central university, NIT, IT Park, JNIMS, district headquarters, multipurpose dams and creation of seven new revenue districts are something the BJP government could never achieve.
Besides, the Imphal-Moreh highway project was initiated by the Congress government in 2016, he pointed out.
He also said that several women are now holding top posts in the police and civil departments as a result of the Congress government's efforts.
It was the Congress government that revived Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) and started conducting civil services examination from 2002.However, there is no hope for the youth under the BJP government.
There are 21,000 vacant posts in different departments of the state government.
Though the government conducts recruitment drive, the recruitment results are kept under wrap for long time.
Aspiring youth ended up selling off their properties in order to secure a government job and it leaves them with mental stress and depression.
'Go to Village' programme has nothing to do with bringing development in the rural area except for simplifying the process of issuing birth and death certificates.
At the same time, announcement of multi-crore packages during Go to Hills programme by chief minister is also a misleading act.
There is no financial allocation for GTH and GTV in the state budget and as such there is no room for implementing those packages, he said.
The MPCC president also slammed BJP for trying to mislead the public by making claims of cementing hill-valley relationships.
He said that the relationship between hills and valley has always been good even during the Congress rule except for some UG organisations against whom the government acted upon.
Congress securing seven seats in the hills in the last assembly election shows the relationship of Congress with the hills, he added.
Loken further charged the BJP government of renaming existing projects to mislead the public.
He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is looting public money in the name of poor people.
Though the BJP government claims of constructing houses for the poor, one can easily understand the factif they check how many new homes have been constructed in their respective GPs.
Interestingly, the government is also asking the poor families, who have been facing severe hardships, to build their house first before releasing the fund, he said.
Ex-MP Dr T Meinya, retired IAS A Tombikanta, social worker L Nando, MPCC secretary Binarani Devi, Imphal West DCC president W Khamba, MPCC general secretary A Pramodini and other partv leaders were present at the felicitation function.
