Awangbow hard sells BIR Govt's initiative
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, November 13 2022: Water Resources minister Awangbow Newmai said that the state has changed significantly in the last six years and added that Manipur would have already become a developed state if there was governance similar to that of the incumbent Biren government in the past 40 years.

Awangbow and Hill Areas Committee Manipur chairman MLA Dinganglung Gangmei attended the Tamenglong & Noney districts day event at the ongoing Manipur International Expo (MANITEX) held at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi, on Sunday.

Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited chairman MLA Kh Ibomcha and Noney DC Joseph Pauline also attended the programme as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Awangbow Newmai pointed out that there was a time when outsiders considered Manipur as a state filled with violence and nobody wanted to visit the state.

As a result, the beauty and potential of the state remained unknown to the rest of the world for a long period.

However, the state is witnessing significant changes today, especially in the last six years.

Only if the present form of governance was there in the past 40 years, Manipur would have made significant progress, he said.

While recounting that in recent past, all shops and establishments in the state, even in the heart of capital city downed shutters at dusk and people remained indoor or hurried home, the minister also maintained that there used to be mistrust and insecure feeling among the communities.

However, ever since the Biren government came into power, the government assessed the various causes and took up remedial measures following which the state is moving towards a new age of development, peace and harmony, he said.

As a result of such a healthy environment, talented youth of the state are finding new opportunities to showcase their skills at different national and international platforms.

Several development projects are being taken up at a faster pace as the law and order situation has improved significantly.

All these new developments have been helping in enhancing the state's profile as well as in economic development, he added.

Handloom and handicraft products of the state have their own unique features, which can attract attention of people from all over.

There is a gap in the demand supply ratio as demand for these products is increasing gradually.

This is also another testament of the development brought by the Biren government, he said, adding that many such positive changes will come in the state in the days to come.

In his address, Nungba MLA and HAC chairman Dinganglung Gangmei described Manipur as a beautiful garden of diverse cultures and traditions.

He called for upholding the harmonious and vibrant colour of this garden by bridging the gap among the indigenous communities and bringing a united and strong Manipur.

He also urged the people of the state to use traditional costumes of other communities stating that such practices will also help in bringing closer the different communities.

Folk music and dance performances were also presented by different troupes from Tamenglong and Noney districts on the occasion.
