Sit-in protests blast at doctor's house

A sit-in protest was staged in front of JNIMS.
Administration Block on Wednesday, condemning the bomb blast at the Brahmapur residence of JNIMS neurosurgeon Dr M Amit Kumar on Tuesday night.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, JNIMS MS in-charge Dr N Kameshwor reminded all concerned that doctors and staff of the Institute have been extending their service to the people, even beyond their normal duty hours especially during the pandemic and also in prevailing conflict.
As such, it is disheartening and condemnable to see doctors being subjected to such threats even in their own homes, he remarked.
Highlighting the time both Dr Amit and his family had to spend to mentally recover from the traumatic experience, Dr Kameshwor said that such incidents have the potential to disturb the doctors mentally, which in turn could affect the treatment and care of patients.
Thus, he urged against threatening doctors, while appealing to all concerned to resolve any misunderstanding through talks.
The sit-in was participated by JNIMS director Prof L De-ben, administrative officials, faculty members, nursing staff, non-teaching staff and medical students.
Dharmalaya Social Welfare Centre and Apunba Meira Paibi Lup also organised sit-in protest at Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai basketball ground on Wednesday to condemn the bomb attack at the residence of Dr Mayanglambam Birmani (60) of Nahabam Leikai on Tuesday night.
The protestors used placards inscribed with slogans like We condemn bomb attack in residential areas', Those attacking innocent civilians are enemy of the people', Attacking innocent people is cowardly act' and Arrest all those involved in the bomb attack' among others.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, a woman protestor recalled that two grenades were hurled, of which one exploded around 8 pm Tuesday when children were in the courtyard.
Fortunately, the children did not suffer serious injury, she stated, while denouncing that such attack in residential areas.
Demanding to clarify why the attack was carried out, she also urged all concerned not to repeat such ghastly act in future.
