Reflecting on the Indian Olympic Association scheduling the 34th National Games in Jharkhand, which sportspersons from Manipur would also be competing in 23 disciplines out of the total 34, he expressed strong resentment that amid hectic preparations for the prestigious games, an organisation has announced the closure of Manipur Olympic Association.
Pointing that the deadline for registration of participating athletes and officials for the Jharkhand event is on January 13, Somorjit urged for supporting the players who are toiling hard to bring recognition and glory to the state.
He also drew the attention of the government and the police authorities in each district to look into the matter and allow the officials of the Association to work responsibly.
The DESAM president also urged against wasting the careers of the athletes and encouraging them to work hard.
Somorjit also stressed the need for timely release of funds to support the sportspersons selected to represent the state in the upcoming Games.
