Residential school for orphans opened in Imphal East

Imphal, March 22 2013:
Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro Singh inaugurated the Imphal East District Residential School which has been constructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) specially for children of BPL families and orphans at Khurai Sajor Leikai here today.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Minister Okendro stated that the State Government has been trying to establish one residential school each under SSA for children belonging to BPL families and orphans in every district.
Construction of the school buildings in different districts of the State would be completed and inaugurated by next month.
The Minister informed there would be altogether 19 schools of which 10 would be Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas having classes from V to VIII and the remaining nine would residential schools.

He also expressed gratitude to MLA Dr Ng Bijoy for taking up the initiative of opening the school for Imphal East district.
Though the construction of the school building has not been completed, for the time being it would function from the office of SSA.
Minister Okendro further informed that with the opening of these schools, those children who are deprived of education owing to certain difficulties would have the opportunity to get themselves enrolled for study.
The teachers also need to consider the children as their own kids and impart education to them. The Minister appealed to the people to safeguard the schools as their own property and also to the local MLAs concerned to look after the development of the schools. MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, who presided over the function, stated that the schools which are to be established under SSA are primarily for bringing up the poor and downtrodden children of the society at a higher level through education.
