Imphal, August 17 2013 :
Even though the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) aims to provide proper road connectivity in rural areas of the country, the people are unhappy with the manner the Yaipharok-Sandang Senba Maring Road was constructed under the PMGSY without any retaining wall and drainage system.
Both Yaipharok Village and Sandang Senba Maring Village are under Senapati district, but located within Keirao Constituency in Imphal-East.
The present road would be the shortest route linking these two villages.
The fund for construction of this road was sanctioned during 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 under PMGSY.
The works were completed recently after a long gap.

However, the one-kilometre stretch near Sandang Senba Maring was constructed in an improper manner without any retaining wall and drainage system to allow passage of water from the hills.
The villagers are now worried that the blacktopped road would not last long due to lack of retaining wall and drainage system.
Secretary of NIPCO Rishi and villagers of Sandang Senba Maring Village inspected the road.
The team found that the road was constructed without following any guideline for construction of roads in hilly terrains.
A villager told Hueiyen Lanpao that the road has shortened the travel distance between Yaipharok and Sandang Senba Village, but improper construction has disappointed the villagers.
The road would not last long as the contractors had not maintained quality while constructing the road.
He further appealed to the authorities concerned to look into such poor construction works and address the developmental needs of the villagers.
