UNC hails MHA move on 3 Bills

Senapati, November 10 2015: Considering the demand of tribal civil bodies and subsequent decision of the Union Government on Monday to consult 'all stakeholders' before the final decision on the three controversial ILP Bills is taken, the United Naga Council (UNC) has welcomed the move of MHA.

A statement issued by its publicity wing lauded the seriousness of the Center to intervene in the matter which was long demanded by the tribals and Nagas of Manipur who are suffering under the ' communal State Government' .

It also reminded the Manipur Government that, as witnessed in every part of the world, people's democratic movement will triumph over any oppressive or bullet policies.

Sending out a strong warning against anti-Naga move by Manipur Government, the UNC stated that, the Nagas at any cost will protect its political aspirations/interest, identity, inalienable rights, land, people and added that it is determined to achieve its stand.

UNC added that the move of the Centre to reach out to the tribals before the final assent on the three 'infamous Bills' which were opposed tooth and nail for its repressive and anti-tribal agendas, is given is a step towards resolving the present sociopolitical turmoil in Manipur.

The UNC has been strongly advocating the involvement of the Central Government to address the genuine issues of the tribals in Manipur.

Lambasting the Manipur Government, the apex Naga body also stated that the hegemony of the present O Ibobi led Congress Government in Manipur is to annihilate and suppress the long pending 'aspirations of the Nagas and Tribals' .

It is clearly evident by the inhuman and brutal misuse of State forces in repressing any tribal issues, alleged UNC and added that tribals and Nagas of Manipur cannot forget the merciless killing incidents at Mao-gate on May 6, 2010 when two young innocent souls were killed & scores injured.

Citing other examples, UNC recalled that two Nagas were killed in Ukhrul on August 29, 2014 and the recent Churachandpur incident where 9 innocent persons were killed by 'trigger happy' Government forces.

The UNC also mentioned that the Nagas in Manipur are resolved to fight the anti-Naga Government that passed the resolution on August 31 in Manipur Assembly against the interest of the Nagas.

Under such circumstances, the tribals and Nagas of Manipur are very much aware that the present 'communal State Government' is playing a divisive and anti-tribal/anti-Nagas role.

However, the tribals in Manipur will not bow to the destructive policies of the Government but struggle together and achieve the aspirations of the tribals.

Therefore, the UNC appealed to all the tribals to stay united and fight collectively till the common aspiration is achieved.
