Imphal, November 04 2014:
The United Naga Council has condemned the attempt of the state Government to take over the homesteads and prime agricultural lands of Koijam Maring, Laiching Minou Maring villages and surrounding areas on the pretext of setting up a Sports University.
In a statement, the UNC said 'although it does not oppose any initiative to bring development and infrastructure by any agency, it takes strong exception to the disrespect of the ownership of the people over their land' .
UNC alleged that the takeover of lands will lead to rendering the villagers homeless and landless, and therefore they will be left without any means of livelihood.
'When there are so many other suitable sites for a sport university, the government is insisting on the said land in spite of protests by the people, the UNC claimed, adding that such attitude of state government is a reflection of its ulterior and anti people motive.
