Mortal remains of 'missing' driver found

Senapati, June 28 2022: The mortal remains of the missing driver who was reportedly taken away by strong river current were found on Tuesday evening.

A Chakumei villager who went to fetch water for his field reportedly saw the corpse suspected to be of the missing driver at about 1 km away from NH-2 .

Police personnel from Mao Police Station rushed to the spot and picked up the corpse.

It may be mentioned that one FCI truck carrying rice skidded off the Likhru Bridge on May 15, at a place in between Makhan and Chakumei in Senapati district along Imphal-Dimapur Highway.

Two occupants of the truck -both the driver and the handyman lost their lives in the accident.

The dismembered leg of the driver was found 2 days after the accident.

After retrieving the body from the river, the Mao Police deposited the body at JNIMS Hospital for post mortem late in the evening.

The deceased driver was from Bihar.
