72nd Wildlife Week: Painting, essay competitions conducted

Bishnupur/Chandel, September 23 2026: Aimed at raising awareness on wildlife conservation, various activities are being conducted in connection with the 72nd Wildlife Week.

Bishnupur

In connection with the Wildlife Week observation, a district-level on the spot painting and essay competition was held at Bishnupur Higher Secondary School under the aegis of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Bishnupur Forest Division.

Around 650 students from different schools of the district participated in the competition which was classified in two categories namely category I (for classes VI to VIII) and category II (for classes IX to XII).

The painting competition for Category I was held on the theme 'Animals in their Habitat' while the theme for Category II is 'The return of Green: Thriving wildlife'.

For the essay competition, the theme for Category I is 'Conservation of Wildlife is Everyone's Duty' and the theme for Category II was 'Connecting Habitats: A Path to Wildlife Conservation'.

Speaking in connection with the event, Range Forest Officer Moirang RK Sadananda said the competitions are being organised to sensitise the young students the importance of conservation of wildlife to foster a healthy environment for the upcoming generations.

Chandel

The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Chandel organised a district-level drawing and essay writing competition at Maha Union Higher Secondary School, Chandel today.

Around 100 students from eight different schools across the district participated in today's competition.

DFO Chandel Dr N Munal Meitei, Principal of Maha Union Higher Secondary School KL Warson Anal and Range Forest Officer Ningthoujam Deepa graced as the presidium members of the event.

As a part of the programme, fruit and flower bearing tree saplings were also distributed to the students.

Addressing the gathering, Dr N Munal Meitei called for collective efforts to protect wildlife and preserve the ecological balance.

Later a district-level quiz competition on wildlife was held at the multipurpose hall of Chandel DC complex.
