MSCW, Akashvani Imphal push for gender equality & women's empowerment

Imphal, February 19 2026:
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in association with Akashvani Imphal, organised a 1-day awareness programme on "Gender Sensitization" today at the Akashvani Imphal auditorium to bolster efforts for amore equitable society.
W Phajatombi Devi, Member Secretary, MSCW & Additional Director (IPR), Manipur, spoke at the event, observing that true gender equality remains unfulfilled despite claims of equal rights.
She emphasized the need for men to recognize women's roles and translate awareness into action.
Konjengbam Sonikumar Singh, Assistant Director (News), Regional News Unit, Akashvani Imphal, stated that gender equality must start at home and extend to the workplace and society.

He also noted the relatively better condition of the transgender community in Manipur compared to other states.
Nongthombam Roma, Programme Executive & Chairperson, Women Cell-Internal Committee, Akashvani Imphal, echoed the call for equality to begin at home and encouraged women to be aware of and exercise their rights.
Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, MSCW, maintained that empowerment must begin at the grassroots level and reiterated MSCW's commitment to promoting women's welfare.
In the technical session, Lourembam Dayabati Devi, former Member of MSCW spoke on "Gender Equity Versus Gender Equality, Gender Role at Home & Work Places", and B Supriya Devi, Advocate, gave insights on "Men as Allies Engaging Men in Women Empowerment" .
SK Sophia Moyon, Member, MSCW; Thokchom Jogendrajit, Assistant Director (News), Regional News Unit, Akashvani Imphal; T Chuongsin Koireng, exMember, MSCW and staff of Akashvani Imphal also attended the event.
